"A List of Things" is an animated short I created in 2021 to go along with a segment from one of my favorite podcasts, Welcome to Nightvale. This podcast is set in the fictional town of Nightvale, where strange things happen and nothing really makes sense.
I wanted to capture the mysterious and unsettling tone of the podcast by using a specific color palette and illustration style to build a cohesive world within my animation. This piece incorporates illustration and frame by frame animations, and was finalized in After Effects. The end result is fun and a little weird - just like Nightvale.
My first step in creating the video was to develop a clear idea of the aesthetic I was aiming for. I collected images of different scenes, color schemes and illustration work that inspired me.
Next I worked on storyboarding the animation frames. Because I was animating along to a spoken list, I wrote out key lines and numbered them so I could plan each frame accordingly.
